QUALITY ASSURANCE AND THE NACC DATABASE
Monthly and quarterly QA reports
NACC monitors the Centers’ submissions to the UDS, NP, and FTLD Module and summarizes the submission activity in reports developed by the QA Group. These reports are sent to NIA and the ADCs on a monthly (UDS) or quarterly (NP and FTLD) basis. The main goal of the reports is to ensure that the UDS data collection protocol is being followed.
Using these reports, NACC monitors trends such as:
- high missed follow-up rates, indicating that annual follow-ups are not being conducted in a timely manner or that ADCs are not informing NACC of subjects who died or discontinued their participation;
- missing neuropsychological test scores for a number of subjects, particularly those who have normal cognition or mild cognitive impairment and would be expected to be able to complete the tests;
- extensive time to packet finalization, indicating that an ADC is slow at entering all of the forms into the data submission system, often because of data-quality errors that must be corrected or verified; and
- low NP Form submission rate for subjects known to NACC to have died and consented to autopsy.
