   Proposal Description:
   Overall, dementia prevalence rates range from 4.3 to 9.41,2. For those over  80, rates range from 12 to 40.3,4 In nursing homes rates as high as 67.5  Thus, health care providers are encountering older adults with dementia in ever  increasing numbers. They are concerned about their patients' judgment and  problem solving abilities because these abilities ultimately impact care needs,  safety needs, and the cost of care. Unfortunately, most health care providers  are unable to assess judgment and problem solving abilities to the degree  desired due to time constraints and/or lack of resources. On the other hand,  health care providers do assess patient functional abilities on a routine basis  as part of their standard of care, especially for older individuals turning  65.6 Therefore it would be clinically valuable if we could identify specific  functional domains that provided insights into the patient???s judgment and  problem solving abilities.    ??? Are there relationships among select functional activities as measured by  the Functional Activities Questionnaire and judgment and problem solving as  measured by the Judgment and Problem Solving sub scale on the Clinical Dementia  Rating Scale?   ??? Are there specific variables [cognition, global cognition and function, and  select predisposing characteristics (demographics)] that moderate the  association between functional activities as measured by the Functional  Activities Questionnaire and judgment and problem solving as measured by the  Judgment and Problem Solving sub scale on the Clinical Dementia Rating Scale?
