   Proposal Description:
   While cognitive decline is the hallmark of Alzheimer???s disease (AD), some individuals demonstrate extensive AD neuropathology (tau tangles and amyloid plaques) without exhibiting clinically-detectable cognitive deficits.  Researchers have characterized such persons as possessing preclinical Alzheimer???s Disease (PREAD)[1].  Beyond neuropathology, little information exists to characterize those with PREAD. Using data from the Uniform Data Set (UDS), we seek to identify the demographic, clinical, and genetic characteristics of subjects with PREAD as well as test hypotheses from prior research on the association between age and education with PREAD. This research may help identify traits that make individuals with PREAD more cognitively robust to the neuropathologic changes associated with AD.
